For the purposes of the debate, the self-help genre refers to nonfiction media (predominantly books) that are written with the intention of instructing the reader on how to solve a problem or improve an area of their life or providing other guidance.
Examples of this media includes, but are not limited to "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck" by Mark Manson, and "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" by Dale Carnegie.
